Fashion Flashback: Twin Peaks Turns 20

Twin Peaks, one of the most daring television shows ever aired, is having its twentieth anniversary this month. When it first premiered in 1990, viewers tuned in weekly for the show's combination of surreal visuals, soap-opera antics, and memorable, quirky characters. Audrey Horne, played by Sherilyn Fenn, was one of the most popular among fans. Audrey was a poor little rich girl, with a touch of Lolita thrown in. Ignored by her father, a business tycoon, she longed for a life of excitement and danger. To compensate, Audrey constantly flirted with FBI Agent Dale Cooper, who came to Twin Peaks to investigate its various mysteries.

Audrey always dressed to kill--her typical outfit was the sexpot version of that worn by a 1950s schoolgirl. She never left home without an eye-catching sweater and a knee-length, fitted skirt. The tree-print sweater, seen above, is a perfect fit for Audrey--not only does it suit her fair complexion and dark hair, but it alludes to the creepiness within the town of Twin Peaks itself!

Audrey's hair and makeup were never less than perfect, either. Her dark waves were always styled just right. She also was rarely seen without red lipstick and a beauty mark near her left eye. And who can forget her Elizabeth Taylor-like eyebrows! During her time in Twin Peaks, Audrey set many hearts aflame. With her timelessness, she still serves as an inspiration for many, including Scarlet Style! Fashion for Free: The Spring 2010 H & M Magazine

Being poor college students, both Z and M appreciate when something stylish also happens to be free of charge. One such recent discovery is the Spring 2010 H & M Magazine. Z, tired from scouring the racks at her local H & M, was thrilled to eyeball the magazine and hear the salesgirl drone, "Yes, it's free..."

This season's issue features the of-the-moment supermodel Erin Wasson on the cover. Inside the magazine, she is featured in a fashion shoot entitled "Perfect Match," detailing a variety of white t-shirt and denim combinations. Basics, it seems, never go out of style!

Famed and controversial photographer Terry Richardson has also captured model Natasa V roaming the streets in "New York City Girl." The photos are carefree and fun, as Natasa wears a variety of H & M's spring clothing--gold parachute pants, striped tops, and the like.

Arguably the most interesting article in the magazine is Agnes Braunerhielm's "In the Front Row," covering the who, what, and wear of the craziness known as New York Fashion Week. Sideboxes next to her article include "How to Get a Foot in the Door of the Fashion Business" and "The A-List."

Rutgers Student Takes Modeling World by Storm!

The insert cover inspired by the Clinique Fresh Face winners!

Many a girl has dreamed of being a model--wearing gorgeous designer clothes, walking down catwalks, and being photographed by the likes of Patrick Demarchelier and Mario Testino. For Misha Bernier, a Rutgers University sophomore, the dream became a reality. Misha was one of three final winners in Clinique's Fresh Faces contest. As a result, she is featured in this month's special advertising insert for TEENVogue.

In an interview with Scarlet Style, Misha noted, "[TEENVogue] called me really early in the morning to tell me I'd won...I was still sleeping!" Shocked and elated, she quickly told her parents the good news. During winter break, Misha and her sister were picked up via towncar, and went to New York City for three days.

The first day in New York included getting to their hotel and having a meet-and-greet with the other winners. On the second day, the new models had brief photoshoots in their hotel, Times Square, and the Clinique and TEENVogue offices. Misha and the other winners helped with "Naming lipsticks...market research...just talking about what girls want" in terms of cosmetics with the Clinique personnel. The final day featured a day-long photoshoot at Industria Studios. The winners also received $1,000 worth of Clinique cosmetics. However, Misha noted, "My sister came with me, so we're splitting the cosmetics...But I still use them everyday!"

Now back at Rutgers, Misha will soon send modeling pictures to casting agencies and hopes to find regular work. She adores Chanel Iman, seeing her as "a total inspiration to women of color," and is also a huge fan of Rihanna. Misha also prides herself on staying real. "Just embrace what you naturally look like. If you're not a 'typical model,' that's perfectly fine. It is possible. Just keep trying."
